Little Joe and the Big City by Mike Darcy has received the Wordscape Wonders Award from OneTribune Media and the BREW Seal of Excellence from The Chrysalis BREW Project. The book has also been shortlisted for both the monthly and annual BREW Readers’ Choice Award.

The book features a young farm dog named Little Joe who becomes separated from his family in a city setting. During his time away, he meets a shelter cat named Mura and begins to learn about displacement, second chances, and empathy. The illustrations, created by Tincho Schmidt, provide visual support to the story’s tone and enhance comprehension for emerging readers.

The Chrysalis BREW Project has also shortlisted the book for its monthly and annual BREW Readers’ Choice Awards, which recognize books that receive high engagement and positive responses from a wide audience. The publication’s review notes that “the writing is warm and accessible, perfect for read-aloud time,” and adds that “Little Joe listens, learns, and responds thoughtfully to others, and the adults model kindness, patience, and understanding.”

Mike Darcy is the author of the Little Joe series. He holds degrees in Digital Forensics, Applied Mathematics, and a Master’s in Public Administration. A lifelong lover of animals and nature, Darcy draws inspiration from his experiences exploring forests and rural life in New England. He lives in Southern New Hampshire with his family and their adopted cat. When not writing, he enjoys walking his Norwegian Elkhound and engaging in community service. Little Joe and the Big City is his debut children’s book, with additional titles in the series currently in development.
